Nakhon Pathom is a central Thailand city that also doubles up as the capital of the Nakhon Pathom Province. This city is strategically located such that a visit here can lead you to any of the four corners of Thailand. Below are a few things that a visitor to the city should know.

1. It is home to Bhikkhuni temple Wat Song Thammakanlayani

Thailand's only Bhikkhuni temple Wat Song Thammakanlayani and which is even open to foreign women is found in Nakhon Pathom. The name of the temple is translated to mean 'the temple of women who uphold Dharma'. It was established by Venerable Dhammananda, a Buddhism author and the first Thai woman to receive full ordination as a Theravada nun.

2. Attractions in the City - Although the destination is not much advertised, you will find some of the most beautiful tourist attractions here. Examples include; Phra Pathom Chedi, Human Imagery Museum, Nakhon Pathom Floating Market, Samphran Elephant Ground & Zoo, Sanam Chandra Palace, Don Wai Market and many more.

3. Things to do in the city - The following are the most popular activities that tourists engage in:
Dining at Floating restaurants at Donwai temple
Cruising along Tha Jeen river
Shopping at the local market in Donwai temple
Visiting the biggest pagoda in Thailand - the Phra Prathom Chedi etc.

4. Cuisines - There are two types sold in Nakhon Pathom. The first king is the street food such as khao moo daeng or hoi thawt. The second king is the fine dining gourmet dishes in upscale restaurants. Trust me; you will love the Thai culinary although some of the foods served are weird.

5. Always carry cash - Most of the transactions here are done on cash basis. The best thing to do is to go and withdraw some money and then go do you shopping. Note that you should not withdraw a huge sum of money...you do not want to get robbed while in a foreign country.

Nakhon Pathom is just beginning to buzz with life. It is a cheap destination but this is not going to remain so for long if the numbers of tourists that visit the city are anything to by.
